Yulia Rirdan, Nutritional Consultant, Herbalist
I see little value in therapies and services that give people only temporary relief, making them dependent upon various methods that merely suppress symptoms rather than heal them. My goal will always be to find the root cause behind health problems and to address that. I will be empowering you—with both education and hands on coaching—to make the necessary shift to become independent in your ability to understand your body and manage your health. Being an herbalist and often employing herbs as powerful allies, I still will always remind you that no one has herbal deficiency as a root cause of their health problems :).
When your health falls apart, there really is no easy way to get it back. You may end up spending a lot of money, looking for a magic fix that simply does not exist. If you don’t feel well, this usually means that your current diet and lifestyle isn’t working for your body. No amount of medication or expensive therapies—whether conventional or alternative—can change that fact. Finding the root of the problem and addressing that is the only way to return your body to a state of optimal health.
Get to the root. Remember, trimming the branches of a tree with rotting roots, will do absolutely no good to the tree. You can trim them from top to bottom or from bottom to top, you can trim them all around, you can trim them short or long, but it is all the same: as long as the root is rotting, the tree will remain sick. Therefore, I always focus on “healing the roots” by finding the cause and addressing that.
Unlike many alternative practitioners you may have seen before, I will not be recommending all sorts of endless cleanses. If your body works properly, it is fully capable of detoxifying itself. If it doesn’t, we need to find the reason why and address that. I consider most cleanses to be simply another form of suppression. By continuing to suppress your health issues, the problem will only go deeper. You may achieve temporary relief, but you will not achieve your ultimate health goals.
Let me give you a few concrete examples. If you cannot lose weight, we need to ask “why”. Why does your body make you crave foods that put it on the path of self-destruction? What is your body missing—nutritionally and otherwise—that is causing it to compensate with unwanted foods? Or if you do eat foods that are supposed to be good for you and still struggle to shed unwanted pounds, then we need to re-evaluate those “good for you foods” and see if they really are all that good for you. As another example, if you don’t have a full satisfying bowel movement on a daily basis, I will want to find out why there is constipation and correct that rather than suggesting a bowel cleansing formula (most of which contain herbs that may lead to laxative dependence).
If your liver struggles to fully perform its detoxifying functions, we will need to figure out why and how we can shift that. If your hormones are out of whack I will not be rushing to recommend a hormone-balancing formula. Instead, we will look for the cause of the imbalance and go from there. If you suffer from headaches or migraines I, once again, will never look for a way to suppress these symptoms. There is a reason for every pain in the body, and finding and addressing it will always be my goal. The same applies to numerous skin problems. When you feel exhausted I will not suggest an herb that will temporarily give you a false sense of energy, but in the long run may end up wearing you out even more. Instead, we will be working on figuring out why you feel tired and what needs to be done to return your optimal energy level.
I also want to add that as a true Sherlock Holmes at heart, I love working with complex and confusing cases. I have an affinity for working with people with insulin resistance (blood sugar dysregulation) as well as people with autoimmune conditions and eczema. I have a very personal and in the past painful and frustrating experience with each one of these health problems, a history that has helped me to become a better healer today.
So, if you are tired of feeling sick and powerless over your health and are ready to do the work required to adjust diet and lifestyle to your body’s unique needs, I would be honored to be a part of this journey. I say, “Knuckle down and buckle up, you’re in for an exciting ride!”
